Since 2004 C. Steinweg Oman LLC (CSO) operates a large general cargo terminal in Sohar (Oman) currently employing approximately 500 fte. Our terminal a.o. facilitates the transfer of cargoes between ship and shore, transshipment of cargoes and executes value adding services. CSO handles a wide variety of cargoes: Dry Bulk (aggregates, concentrates, ores, special products), Project Cargo (OOG and heavy lifts), Breakbulk (coils, billets, wire rods, plates, timber), RORO (new cars, building equipment, cargo on mafi), and livestock. Furthermore, we operate a warehouse with bonded status as well as a Container Freight Station (CFS). Our operation runs 24 hrs. per day, 365 days a year. 

Place and Country of Residence

Oman is located in the Middle East, on the southeastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. In winter Oman has an excellent climate the subtropical temperatures ranges from 22°C to 25°C. During the summer months it can be quite hot and temperatures can go up to 45°C. Sohar is centrally located between the major cities Muscat, Dubai and Abu Dhabi which offer everything one could possibly need. Sohar has a noticeable expat population consisting of citizens from multiple countries. Because of the large expat population, Sohar offers (international) schools, as well as various restaurants and shopping malls. The standard of education in Oman is generally high, and schools tend to have excellent facilities with extra-curricular activities.

Oman is a very safe country so it’s a particularly good environment to live in and to raise children.

Position Objective

The Sales Manager will be part of the Commercial Department and resides in Sohar (Oman), although he/she will frequently work from CSO’s office in Muscat. The Commercial Department has about 17 employees in total. The Sales Manager is focused on attracting new business and clients (shippers, receivers, traders, brokers, etc.) within the business areas Project cargo, Breakbulk and RORO. Knowledge of Stevedoring and these Cargo Types is a must.

The main objectives of the position of the Sales Manager are:

The Sales Manager reports to the Commercial Manager (HOD). He / She manages the Account Manager ‘Project cargo, Breakbulk and RORO’. There is close contact with the Customer Service team, as well as with the Operations department, for seamless implementation of new business, and execution of existing business.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities

The key tasks and accountabilities of the Sales Manager, include: 

Sales and business development by

o generating new business & new customers; 

o increasing sales with the existing customer base;

o cross-selling on local and group level.

Pricing, contracting and administration*

o answering to RFI/RFQ/RFP’s of Prospects/Clients; 

o participating in tender preparations; 

o calculating, preparing quotations, rate agreements, service level agreements and the like; 

o taking the responsibility for correct and complete execution of the full process, including correct implementation & administration of new agreements.

Business intelligence; active gathering of useful business-related information (news, trends, leads) followed by analyses and pro-active approach of prospects.

Reporting to and coordination with the Commercial Manager on relevant results, leads, prospects, business opportunities, forecasts and the like. 

Support and participation in marketing initiatives and business events.

Active coordination with the team leader Sales Control and Customer Service (first line customer questions/complaints/enquiries, invoicing, administration, etc.).

Active coordination with the Account Manager(s), in charge of the execution of the day-to-day commercial operation.

* Depending on the size and complexity of Customer requests, this is either handled by Account Manager, the Sales Manager or Commercial Manager, and where required in coordination with one another.
