Project & Application Manager Oman

Since 2004 C. Steinweg Oman LLC (CSO) operates a large general cargo terminal in Sohar (Oman) currently employing approximately 500 fte. Our terminal a.o. facilitates the transfer of cargoes between ship and shore, transshipment of cargoes and executes value-adding services. CSO handles a wide variety of cargoes: Dry Bulk (aggregates, concentrates, ores, special products), Project Cargo (OOG and heavy lifts), Breakbulk (coils, billets, wire rods, plates, timber), RORO (new cars, building equipment, cargo on mafi), and livestock. Furthermore, we operate a warehouse with bonded status as well as a Container Freight Station (CFS). Our operation runs 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. We do not have a 9 to 5 mentality culture.


The Project & Application Manager reports directly to the CEO and is member of CSO Management Team.

Project & Application Manager Oman


The Project & Application department is a motivated team that exists for about 4 years in CSO organization. The team members originate from former application implementation projects. In the beginning the focus in the team was on implementation of applications, last years the need to focus on the maintenance of implemented applications increased. The need to have a more professional application management team is evident and results in the below objective:


Guarding quality, efficiency and professionalism and initiate improvements within the Project and Application management department


The Project & Application Manager reports directly to the CEO and is member of CSO Management Team.

As a Project & Application Manager, you are head of department of Project and Application Department. In this function your activities will be related to the below three main subjects.


Business Continuity, safeguarding application availability via professional application management;

Team Management and Development of the Project & Application Management team;

Process / Business Improvement, lead the implementation of new functions and applications from requirements analyzes till securing the new way of working as business as usual;


Key Tasks and Accountabilities

The key tasks and accountabilities of the Project & Application Manager, include Business Continuity Management, Business Improvement and team management:

Safeguard application availability (uptime) of business (critical) applications (24/7) for business continuity reasons;

You are accountable for the incident, change and release process;

You manage (strategic) supplier relationships to achieve goals and business requirement; 

Manage projects related to process improvement, business improvement and application implementation, from process/requirements analyses till Go Live and securing the business as usual status for the new appication;

You build and maintain the relation with suppliers during the execution of a project;

You consult regularly with the team coordinators involved, the management of CSO, suppliers and business stakeholders to allign on future developments;

You pro-actively identify, promote and present process enhancements supported by existing and new functionality and or new applications;

You lead, facilitate, instruct and coach the teammembers within Project and Application Management department;

You plan, monitor and report on the quality and results of the services delivered by Project and Application management department;

You draw up, implement and evaluate plans to improve the services of the Project and Application Management department;


Profile, Qualifications Competencies and Skills (must haves)

Working level will be minimum Bachelor, preferably in IT Management, Information Management or Business Administration;

Knowledge of and experience in application design, development/configuration, testing,  implementation, and user support principles and practices;

Experience with Information system troubleshooting;

Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience;

Analytical, process thinking and result oriented;

Works in a structured way and actively keeps stakeholders informed about progress of activities;

Experience with business and process improvement;

Experience with preparing and executing process & workflow analyses;

Experience with analyzing (business) requirements and data;

Demonstrated skill in implementing automated business systems;

Knowledge of application design, development, testing,  implementation, and user support principles and practices;

Demonstrated experience as team leader or department manager;

Experience in or knowledge of methods such as BISL, AGILE, SCRUM, TMAP Next and Prince2 is an advantage;


General:

He/She is keen and critical and oversees impact at different levels (colleagues, customer, user organization, information);

He/She shows great adaptability to various cultures and personalities. Building and maintaining strong relationships with both external as internal stakeholders is important;

He/She promptly manages and coordinates any conflict, issues or possible improvements that arise with (internal) customers and/or within the teams. 

The Project & Application Manager is an outgoing, and pro-active person, has a very strong business continuity mindset, knows when to listen, has the ability to propose a fitting solution for the wishes of the (internal) customers, and is persistent and hands-on. Guarding the quality of the work of your team/colleagues and the services provided from A to Z is an important attribute in Oman; which requires close cooperation with direct colleagues and other departments;

Be recognized as a pro-active leader and build relationships with head of departments and team leaders across the company. Leading by example;

Truthful, integer, upright and act according to what is right are the key words in this. The attitude within CSO is not only to address what needs improvement but also to actively participate in it, and to share achievements with the ones who contributed to them. CSO embraces an open communication culture;

Experience in automation of the logistic services industry is an advantage;

A minimum of five years' work experience in a similar position of which at least three years in a coordinating or directing role is required;

Good command of the English language, both verbally and in writing;

Command of the Arabic and/or Dutch language is an advantage;

For this function you will reside in Oman;

Remuneration is in line with market conditions and experience level.
