Since 2004 C. Steinweg Oman LLC (CSO) operates a large general cargo terminal in Sohar (Oman) and employs approximately 500 fte. This terminal a.o. facilitates the transfer of cargoes between ship and shore as well as transhipment of cargoes. CSO handles a wide variety of cargoes: Bulk (concentrates, ores, special products), Project Cargo (OOG and heavy lifts), Steel Products (coils, billets, rebars, wire rods), Generals, RoRo (cars, building equipment, mafi) and Timber.


At the core of our capability, to offer our clients the best possible services, a strong IT environment is a prerequisite. Last years, a number of new applications were implemented and shifted to a business as usual status. These applications are an integrated part of the new Terminal Operating System (TOS) to support the administration of CSO’s core business processes. The landscape concerns a far-reaching integration between various new systems of Steinweg. The application landscape includes various standard applications (JMT, iCorp, CODA) and self-built applications and interfaces interconnected via a service bus. It is this new application landscape that will be the focus of the work area of this future Business Analyst and Functional Application Maintenance. Characteristic for this job is the varied work with various focus areas such as operational, commercial and Financial processes.

Business Analyst and Functional Application Administrator


C. Steinweg Oman (CSO) in Sohar, Oman is looking for an energetic and proactive fulltime Business Analyst and Functional Application Maintenance administrator. You will find yourself in the Projects department. This department currently consists of five employees including the department head. They are currently jointly responsible for the functional application maintenance, changes and several projects.


Tasks and responsibilities:

You will participate in projects around the applications that are already transferred to business as usual or will be transferred to business as usual;

You optimize business processes and translate them into system changes or functionality extensions;

Offer solicited and unsolicited advice to business stakeholders in TOS landscape;

You provide 2nd line user support in the area of applications that are transferred to business as usual;

You identify, analyse and prioritise "Change requests ", "Service Requests" and "Incidents" and also solve them with support of other team members or suppliers;

You maintain contacts with suppliers for standard applications;

You will work closely with other disciplines;

You carry out acceptance tests;

You write manuals, give training and instructs key users and end users.


In addition to regular tasks within the department, you will also be involved in projects in which you will (pro-) actively participate to ensure that the applications are properly implemented to ensure that the maintenance after the transfer to business as usual maintenance will run smoothly. Candidate profile:

In order to be able to perform this role well, it is very important that you have communication skills and experience in a similar role. You will be sparring a lot with business stakeholders (head of departments and team leaders), key users, suppliers, partners, IT department and the project organization. 


The ideal candidate meets the following description: 

You have completed a Bachelor or Master degree with a relevant Business administration and IT component;

You have 5 years (or more) working experience as an Business Analyst, Functional application manager or a similar position; 

You are analytically, driven by initiative, responsible, a communicator and innovative;

You are a team player who is naturally focused on sharing knowledge. In addition, you are accustomed to actively participating in complex projects;

You have the ability to train and develop team members gradually bringing them to a higher level;

You like to analyse and understand the business processes that are supported by applications;

You have experience with complex IT landscapes, management of complex interfaces and dependencies between systems;

You are result-oriented, driven and accurate;

You have demonstrable experience in independently picking up (sub)projects and change requests;

You are systematic and orderly in troubleshooting, processing and analysing data;

Experience in analysing and mapping user requirements and translating these into a concrete solution;

Good command English language in both word and writing; 

Every very basic understanding of Arabic language is an advantage;

Experience in or knowledge of methods such as ITILBISL, AGILE, SCRUM, TMAP Next, Prince2, Business Process Management is an advantage;

Experience in logistics services is an advantage;

Experience with Terminal Operating Systems is an advantage;

Flexible in terms of working hours, no 9 to 5 mentality;
